It can be anything, as long as I have the system for it. The only systems I do have access to are any forms of the X Box, Wii, and PS4. And forget going over my friends to okay the 360 because his house is cluttered.
Anyway, I heard Dark Souls is good, (which again, he has and probably hasn't been playing.)

Well, my first recommendation is to sell your Xboxs, because they suck.
Second, it depends on your preferred style of game.
As far as PS4 goes, MGS5 Ground Zeroes is out. Watch Dogs as well. Both are stealthy, open world-ish action games. Drive Club I think is out, I'm not sure. Thats supposed to be a good racing game. Other than that, PS4 will be getting FFXV and Kingdom Hearts 3 at some point. Perhaps we'll find out tomorrow
E3 is tomorrow, that should give you some good ideas of whats coming out this year and next for Sony, Microsoft, as well as Ubisoft and EA
As for Wii, the obvious choices are things like Super Smash bros. Brawl, and Super Mario Galaxy. Wii also has the Gamecube library open to it if you have a Gamecube controller. That has pleanty of good choices.
Yeah, Dark Souls is good, definately try that if you want a difficult RPG thats good. Very subtle with the story though, it tells the story a lot though mechanics, which is good, but not obvious.
If you are into Batman, the Arkham Series is good (Minus Origins), Arkham Knight, the newest one, will be on PS4
And most 7th gen fighting games are good, though my opinion as of late is that Tekken 6 is WAY better than Super Street Fighter IV, and Tekken Revolution is free to play on PS3, but it seems you have no access to that, which is yet another arguement for selling your Xbox for a PS3.
In the catagory of RPGs, if you can still buy PS1 classics on PS4, obviously the FF games, Breath of Fire IV looks like another good 5th gen RPG, Chrono Trigger is on there, Legend of Dragoon, lots of good stuff.
You are also into that anime stuff, so in the RPG catagory theres the Tales series, of which I believe you are already aware. Pichubro knows way more about that than me though. I think they are OK, if you can tolerate anime caliber storytelling, with action combat. They are on various consoles
Lets see how this run goes, I can try to pinpoint more based on what sounds good from this more general list

Watch Dogs is painfully average. Buy it when it goes on sale.
If like Dark Souls' gameplay you may also like Deep Down, on PS4. It's not out yet but you can watch gameplay on youtube.
Wii has a ton of variety. Probably the most of all the consoles you listed so it needs to be narrowed hahaha

Really? Thats disappointing. But it IS Ubisoft.
Oh yeah! We might see more about that tomorrow! Was that game Capcom or Japan Studio?
Well, I wouldn't say it has variety more than it has a LOT of different kinds of shovelware. The good games list is pretty short.

It's not terrible, but it's also not groundbreaking.
Capcom.
It has stuff like Okami, Zelda, RE4, Muramasa, Mario, Fire Emblem, SuperSmashBros, Symphonia, Harvest Moon, etc. And that is almost 10 different genres alone. Xbox is shooters with 10% RPG/Adventure, and PS4 has too small of a library.

Huh, yeah, I guess I expected more from it. I'll have to see it in action myself once you get it
Oh yeah, thats right, I suspected that, I just remember thinking it looked like a Japan studio game, it didn't have that characteristic Capcom look, which is exciting! As long as they learn from the mistakes they made in Dragon's Dogma
I guess in that sense there is diversity, but stuff like Okami and Zelda were better on their native consoles. I forgot about Fire Emblem though. And Symphonia is on Gamecube, not Wii, ha hah a

Aiden is so bland and internet memes everywhere is well... facepalming. The only good video IMO to come from the game is called "Making the World a Better Place", which has the player running around killing NPCs that he considered needed purging from the world, like "attends Furry conventions", "Scientologist" and "Canadian" hahaha
But you can play it on the Wii, what difference does it make hahaha

Lol I don't have the Xbox 360, my friend does. And my brother gave him his copy of Dark Souls for his birthday. He even has our copy of FFVII.
Gotta go get my shit back... Because I need to play FFVII and finish it this time. I made it to the second disk. I also have the PS1 version of Chrono Trigger and Breath of Fire IV, just need to find them.
Only thing I'll play otherwise is Persona 4, any of the Katamari games I have, and Pokemon if I didn't have recommendations. And damn, I still need the first Silent Hill. I heard the collection version with the other games sucked, though.

Persona 4 is amazing. I need to beat it this summer.

Oh....thats really a shame, Stupid Ubisoft and it's hype machine got me again.
Well yeah I guess.
Oh, I thought we were just counting consoles you own. Ah! What! Smack that boy upside the head for giving away Dark Souls! And NEVER trust friends with your copy of FFVII, you'll have to steal it back, trust me.
Yeah, bring a Kukri or a baseball bat. Man, you need to make it to the 3rd disk. And whaaaat!? I wish I had the PS1 copy of BoFIV! I have the PS1 version of Chrono Trigger though :nigga:
Ehh, the first Silent Hill is meh, it's OK I guess, but SH2 is WAY better. And just like a told Pichubro, look for a used copy on Amazon or something. Whatever you pay will be worth it for the correct version of Silent Hill 2. Silent Hill 3 was pretty good too from what I played. And yeah, I heard they full on BOTCHED the remake, which is sad. I expected to enjoy the remake.

If you want to count consoles I have the N64, PS1, PS2, SNES, Game Cube, and PS3. As for handhelds I have a Game Boy Color, GBA Advanced, Nintendo DS, the 3DS, and PSP.
I'd play a Tales of game, but... I don't feel too motivated. I think I'll enjoy Persona 4 a lot more, due to the fact that the characters aren't as annoying or cliche.

Tales games are more of a guilty pleasure to me. But they aren't terrible like my other guilty pleasure, Drakengard >~>
Yeah, the characters in Persona 4 is the main reason why I play it. I'm not too far in the game yet, only on April 29th.
Fire Emblem Awakening on 3DS is pretty fun.

About what I expected, the standard compliment. Though, now I'm really starting to see that I'm one of the only people I know with a Sega Genesis.
Yeah, They are kind of mediocre. Then again I don't even like the Persona series much.
I think you are more enamored with the concept of a Dragon game than you are with Drakengard, Drakengard is your only outlet at the moment.
Yeah, I don't know anything about 3DS games, but I do know about PSP. Obviously, again, Square had a massive presence on PSP, so you have Crisis Core, Dissidia, Birth By Sleep, and all those FF rereleases. But there were other games on there, I liked the gameplay of the Phantasy Star Portable games. The missions got a little repetitive, and the story really wasn't too good, but the gameplay was fun. It's basically a Tales game with lightsabers and spaceships, ha ha ha. Also, people seem to like Monster Hunter on there, never played it, personally to me it just looks like Phantasy star with bigger monsters and swords. But the star on PSP is obviously Dissidia, the story sucks, but the gameplay is RIDICULOUSLY fun. Not to mention getting to beat up Squall with Zidane is always pretty satisfying. I didn't get to play the new one though. I'm betting it's more of the same.

Dissidia is fun as fuck. Haven't touched it in years, though.
I forgot about Kingdom Hearts. I'll play the hell out of that game.

Unlike the Silent Hill HD collection, the Kingdom Hearts HD collection improved on the game rather than kill it. Though the music is remixed, it captures the feel of the original.

Hahaha! Kingdom Hearts is great! I could never get past the Pinocchio level when I was younger.
Sorry, the typo for my post made things confusing. I do not have a Wii, Xbox 360, or PS4.
I forgot about all the cool games on my SNES, like Kirby Super Star. Then I also have Mario games, too. And my NES 64 I have Pokemon Snap! AHHHHH NOSTALGIA TRAIN! But Kirby 64 takes the cake.
And as for my Gamecube there's Pikmin and Animal Crossing, which is pretty fun. And the Tales Games are meh for the story; everyone just plays them for the badass battle system. Persona is much better imo, having good characters with development and an actual interesting story that isn't "let's go save the world" like Tales.

Yeah, not really, the original music was way better Not a fan of remixed music, either. It gets annoying brcause a lot of remixes come off as trying to way too cool... Just use the original music. But I need to figure out what I'm going to play... I luckily (because my school is too goddamn lazy to get a teacher for the class I need) do not have summer school. So, without it, I have more free time to do whatever the hell I want. Sadly I do not have a better copy of Marvel vs. Capcom 2.

Oh, I thought you said you DID have a PS4 and a Wii. OK, well thats a shame because you could have gotten Littlebig Planet 3 which was announced at E3
Yeah, we here at Groovy are pretty big fans of Kirby 64
Yeah, those are good ones, and Twilight Princess. I don't like Persona because it sometimes takes place at school, one of the biggest sins one can commit when writing a story
Yeah, the remixed music in KH 1.5 wasn't nearly as good as the original music. And don't even get me started about the FFXHD remixes, I made a video about them! So bad. And yeah, thats what summer is for, catching up on personal projects and catching up on games
You know that game is on PSN for PS3. Forget playing it online though, those people are DISGUSTINGLY good. Tekken Revolution is Free to Play on PS3 though, and it's basically the free version of Tekken 6, it's really good.

I'm dead. Mario basically hit the nail on the head about the school setting; which is why I camnot stand watching most newer anime. Like fuck all of that stuff.
But look, I will take the stories in the Persona series any day over the Tales series, which always equals to "save the world." It's done way too much. Another thing about Symphonia is that Andre (pokegun) used to watch me play it, and found Colette being clumsy as a plot device. Like, she'll fall over while you're in a dungeon or etc. and it'll open up something to get you further in the story during the cutscenes. It was ridiculous! It's like the writers did it just to rush the story because even they knew they did the same thing over constantly before.
Only game of the series I really want to play is Tales of Destiny, the version release on the PS2 that only Japan has. It's more for the battle system and so I can play as Leon, who may be an asshole, but I'd rather play as him than happy go lucky Stahn.
Also, I would only want a Wii for Nintendo games. More Animal Crossing, Kirby, and Pokemon? I'm sold!

Honestly I play the Tales games more for the characters and gameplay than story. Vesperia probably had my favorite cast, mainly because Yuri was a nice breakout main character. He shot up the popularity polls when fans saw him going out of his way to kill off villians instead of going "darn, I guess we'll get them next time guys!" It was nice that he had no romantic subplot either, it's a miracle what a difference a 22 year old protagonist makes over a 16 year old. Vesperia was still kind of bogged down by the younger party members, but the older ones made up for their annoyance. Though Patty was so bad, I don't know why they felt the need to add her. -_-
But then, I never really get tired of "save the world" plot. I absolutely love when I find an RPG that doesn't follow that story like Yakuza 4 and Persona, but I like the Hero's Journey archetype as well. There are way worse options out there than Tales, at least they try to do something different in each game outside of the overaching theme of saving the world.

Adolescent protagonists annoy me, so yeah, ha ha
Well saving the world isn't a bad story, it's the way they do it that you find annoying. Any story can be done well. And an original idea, no matter how original, can be done poorly. The reason the Tales series is so weak in the story department, at least from what I've learned from Symphonia, is that they couldn't suprise a blind person in the dark. And they think they are super good at plot twists. Thats a bad combination. I was predicting the story to that game like, HOURS in advance. Like, within the first half hour I knew that Kratos was probably Lloyd's father. And that Noishe could probably talk. That dumb luck factor of Colette actually made her endearing to me actually. At least on some level there was an element of unpredictability to her derpyness.
The best Tales fighting system was Tekken 6.
Like I said. Adolescent characters suck, ha ha ha. And yeah, I do like Yuri, but only because he reminds me a lot of my main character, ha hah a. That and it's not often you find a male protagonist with long hair who isn't androgonous.
The Hero's journey has nothing to do with saving the world, thats a character development structure. It just so happens that it is usually applied to stories where someone saves a world. Luke Skywalker didn't save the world, Harry Potter didn't save the world, Turtleman didn't save the world, and both of those are Hero's journey stories. And the only thing Tales does well is gameplay. The stories and characters usually drag the game down.

Post by koi on Jun 12, 2014 14:25:37 GMT -5
Huh? Tekken 6? Best fighting system?
Eh, I guess a better way to phrase it would have to be "go on a journey and fight a evil person with the help of freindship and they may save the world as well, blah blah blah..." Yeah, I guess it's not always bad, but Tales just usually throws a story in and all you end up doing is playing it for the battle system. Also, Genis and Raine had to be the most annoying characters in Symphonia. Presea was cool, though. Also, I thought Yuri was a girl when I first saw his character design, but his hair game is on point.
Eh, adolescent characters aren't always bad, just written badly. I like Persona 4 because all of the kids have some internal problem that actually makes sense for their past and motivations, such as Noato dressing like a guy because she wouldn't be taken seriously otherwise as a detective.
But personally if there is one thing I like about age in series, I usually gravitate towards either really young characters. These are anime, but the way they write the characters in Cardcaptor Sakura and Kodocha are great, and it's a lot better than watching horny teenagers inside a school build themselves in retarded situations like half the anime do now even when they're supposed to have a story. The only shows I really like with teenagers anyway is stuff like Lain or Key The Metal Idol that isn't really typical anyway :/ Can't think of any video game examples because I rarely play them, and the games I like don't even have humans in them (i.e. Katamari.)
Forgot to mention the fact that I have a good amount of old PlayStation games. And yes, I know Megaman X6 sucks. Has anyone here seen how the levels and enemies were constructed in that game? It feels like Capcom was trolling while they were drunk amd just said, "fuck this shit, sell the game!" But besides that there's Dragon Seeds and some other cool stuff...
