Namco makes both Tekken and Tales, and if you look at them, some of the Tales games have a similar gameplay to Tekken's fighting system. That and Tekken 6 has an RPG in it which reminds me of Tales. So I call the Scenario mode in Tekken 6 Tales of Tekken. It's not amazing, but it's on par with other Tales games.
It's just bad writing. The character motivations are a mess and the mechanics don't mesh with the story. A bunch of little kids in some podunk village in the middle of nowhere have no business being experts at killing monsters. It's all just very senseless.
I think Adolescent character have an inherient problem in that their options are extremely limited just by the nature of being that young. Adults can go wherever they want and do whatever they want, no restrictions. Plus young characters don't have good decision making skills, nor the need to use them due to being children and not having to make any actually difficult decisions themselves. They are irrational and just magnets for boring melodrama. Thats why Yuri was good, no bullshit melodrama. "Bad guy? Kill him." You can also have more complex histories because they, you know, actually had time to have a past.
Oh god....nooooooo.
Yeah, PS1 has a great library. Like in addition to the FF games, Squaresoft went HAM on the PS1, they were in their prime. Like, even their joke games were amazing, like Brave Fencer Musashi and Chocobo Racing. Of course you have the other classics like Street Fighter EX plus @, Metal Gear Solid, Omega Boost (The prequel to Gran Turismo...in space), Ape Escape, the actually good Rainbow Six games, and of course Crash Bandicoot and Spyro, duh. And I've never played a Megaman game.

Also, I've heard of Phantasy Star. I think we have one of the games here...
And Spyro is my shit. Sadly I do not have Ripto's Rage anymore, only the first game and Year of The Dragon. Ripto's Rage had that cool stage with the lava and the little cavemen looking people with bones... Thag was one of the best worlds, man!

Noishe can't talk, his significance in the story is something else besides being Kratos's pet.
Persona 4 is very good at having rounded characters. Nobody in that game is perfect, they all have their flaws and one of key points to the game is that they learn how to deal with the truth that they DO have things about them that they dislike. There's always a character to identify with and they don't fall into the usual tropes of "cutesy girl", "macho boy", "nerdy shy guy" and the like as cookie-cutter as other games do.
The main reason why RPGs have teenagers is that that is the demographic they are shooting for so the developers think they need someone their age to immerse themselves in the game. And yeah, Yuri had some real falling out with some people of the party, it's almost like friends don't always get along! Yuri was a good protagonist.
Was there Suikoden games on PS1? Suikoden games are sort of interesting RPGs.

I like RPGS a lot, so I'll look into it.
And I need to pick up my copy of FFVII. My friend never gets out of the house, meaning I have to walk there and pick it up.
pichubro basically took the words out of my mouth for Persona 4. I like how the characters aren't flat, 2-d archetypes that practically have no redeeming qualities. Personally I like this cast a lot more than what I've seen from P3. I used to watch Andre play it, and I'm guessing the tone of P4 is what makes it more enjoyable to me.

The animes...oh god, little kids are the WORST.
For which console, they are out for everything these days. The big ones were Phantasy Star IV for Sega Genesis (you probably don't have that, that cart is super rare), Phantasy Star Online for Dreamcast and Gamecube, and Phantasy Star Universe, which I think was on PS3 and Xbox, or maybe just xbox, I forget. And Phantasy Star Portable which was for PSP. It's basically Tales in Space, with a more actiony battle system, except for the first one which was a classic style RPG.
Yeah, those were the only ones I had too, I think Crash Team Racing or something had a demo for Spyro 2 that I'd play a lot, all I remember is playing hockey with ninjas or something.
Well I knew he would do something, like I could have sworn he talked or evolved or something like that, some sort of ancestor to man or something, i forget
Ehh, that sounds like the basis for something good horribly corrupted into teenage melodrama. That stuff should be assumed and used for something better.
Yeah, more like Japanese game developers might be pedophiles. And yeah, he was good, thats why my character will be REALLY good.
I beileve so, I know nothing about them though

Although there is one thing that I do wonder about with a lot of character decisions, and for some reason I feel like in anime and other Japanese related stuff they purposely avoid writing adults characters as more of a norm, hell, you'll be lucky to find a anime character over the age of 18 nowadays...
I really do not get it. Even for video games, some concepts can be made really interesting if they put older characters in there. I mean hell, take some risks. But shoving teenagers in our face all the time is boring...
Also, I'm wondering what you age you consider as an adult, Mario. Over 18, or just 21 and older? Because some people still refer to younger people as kids until they're 21. Personally if you're 18 you're practically an adult in my eyes, just not fully.

Yeah, like I said, large concentration of Pedophiles in Japan.
Well it's just a Japanese thing, American and European games tend to resist this urge. Though, I wonder how old the protagonist of Dark Souls is. Prolly 15.
Older the better. Older means more history. Besides, if you want an immature character, having an immature adult character is far funnier than an immature child, an immature child is just kind of expected and a little annoying.

Because some people still refer to younger people as kids until they're 21. Personally if you're 18 you're practically an adult in my eyes, just not fully. Because the vast majority of gamers and anime fans in Japan are teenage and younger. You do have the occasional outlier in anime like Monster, Cowboy Bebop and Mushishi where the central characters are adults, and the occasional outliers in games like Resident Evil and Metal Gear, but most adults in Japan do not admit to playing games or watching anime unless it's mainstream like Pokemon and Monster Hunter. The main problem with this is that teenagers don't have money and they can be satisfied with less stimulating characters and plots. Developers will then try to aim at teenagers for the larger pool of consumers, but then ultimately create a vicious cycle of less adults playing games because there are less games available for their tastes. And many Japanese adults are too prideful to play Western games.

Ah... Ok. Although I see your point, there is no excuse for the constant sexualization of minors in their media. Nope, no excuses... That's my main problem, along with just crappy anime writing in general.

And as such thats why Japan's economy is in the tank, because all their culture will allow them to do is work, which overheats their economy, which makes it so no one buys anything, which makes people work because they think their money will be worth more, which makes them not buy things, like games, which makes games not playable, so adults won't take a break to play games, which makes them go to work, which overheats their economy and causes even more deflation, and yeah, thats why Japan has a terrible economy.
