So, I stalled making this thread for a while, but now I can finally make it One week ago today I made one of the most important and costly investments in my life. Meet Barack Obama: Feast your eyes on the new (in 1994) Volvo 850 Turbo sedan, it's twice as fast as your ass, and still twice as classy. And it will outlast anything on the road. To sum it up, it's Black, it's the executive, and it runs shit. Thus the name, Barack Obama. I technically can't drive it yet because it's technically illegal because I bought it without the Tags, because I can't get insurance because I only have my Learners Permit, but I know I have a sound investment, one I can now work on while I'm getting my licence that will be ready to go the day I do have my licence. This thread is primarily for posting about my adventures on the road and different general car stuff in our lives.

Hell yes, It'll be hard to see because it's dark, but you can try. I'm wary of getting in it though, since the driver's front tire is currently flat because apparently the tube is fucked for some unexplained reason, but we could try if I reinflated it. The inside is where it is best.

Let us not discuss numbers, the walls have eyes.
It has a fake muffler tip on it, but it actually doesn't look like shit like they usually do on faggoty asian cars. it just looks even classier.

You know, a lot of people have been saying that, ha ha ha ha ha. I agree though
Also, fun fact, every american car visible in those pictures doesn't work or is undrivable in some way. Ha ha, american cars.

Pumping gas fucking sucks.
I just had to put gas in my car. And by that I mean put it in a can and then put it in my car. I reak of gas, the can leaked on my hands, and I cleaned them twice, and they still smell really bad.
Plus, gas doesn't need to be so fucking expensive, it's ridiculous. Rich people who control oil prices are terrible.

So Pichubro, now that you have your licence, do you drive anywhere? What are your reasons for starting your road adventures?

So I had my first driving lesson today, and got my key duplicated. Crazy lesson, I spun the tires once by accident, and drove down a tiny road i wasn't meant to

haha
what do you mean by spinning the tires

Post by Mario the black knight on Jan 21, 2011 2:18:39 GMT -5
Well, I'm wearing my snow boots today, so I accidently put my foot down a little too hard
I floored it when trying to pull out after a stop sign. One of the tires was in snow, the other was on tarmac, and the tires spun, then we went down the road pretty fast. I also went down a tiny back road when I mixed up one of his directions. Some asshole in a truck was driving down the middle of the road, so I had to pull over to accomidate him. It was scary, but I was just getting back into it.

that was the hardest thing with driving for me, the acceleration is so sensitive. i had no idea how fast a car would go with such a small amount of pressure on the gas.

Well no, I actually accidently floored it, like straight up put the pedal to the floor, Ha ha ha ha
But yeah, it is sensitive, but I adjusted. The thing that gets me is mixing up right and left, which is odd since I'm not in kindergarden, but I was never good at that, I just for some reason get them backwards in my head. As far as actual driving mistakes, curbs are my arch nemesis, I run them over far too often, and I often accidently drive like a driving line instead of like I'm on a road, like weaving out to make quicker turns and other race car stuff. And I do roundabouts and coldasacks WAY too fast, like 25 MPH in a development around a turn fast, ha ha ha ha, I hit the apex and accelerate like a maniac. Although I find speeds faster than 40 MPH terrifying still. I'm sure I'll adjust and end up doing 40 everywhere or something, ha ha ha. Also, I suck in reverse, I cannot park for shit.
So you still don't have your licence?

hahaha. i never had any problems driving once i got a feel for the acceleration. i was HORRIFIED of parking between cars though. i did it fine but i HATED it, and probably always will. whenever i had the chance i would park as far back as possible if it meant i could park in a space with no cars around it.

Yeah, that I'm insanely paranoid of, I tried it once and did fine, but like, came just short of having an anxiety attack once it was done. I need to practice my distance recognization, like use cones set 10 feet apart to practice, my depth perception is shit even with my glasses on. I think once I get used to it, I'll be able to do it, and even then, I'll probably still opt for a spot far from cars. Just in general I have trouble driving in reverse, I always assume stuff is way closer than it is, so I end up being paranoid of hitting everything.

and no, im waiting for my change of address confirmation so i have a valid id to verify my address so i can take the permit test again. You changed address over a year ago. Why has it not been confirmed yet, and who do you need to confirm it with anyway? The DMV? That Permit test is mad crazy easy though. Most of the questions should be common sense. I passed it flawlessly first try. No questions wrong.

So is it hard to get a copy? I wouldn't think it would take a year. You don't have any mail that is addressed to you at that address? I'd think thats all you need, all I had to have a letter addressed to me when I went there

Ohhhhh, right.
I just brought a Social Security letter and some other random piece of mail that was addressed to me, they looked it over, and that was all that was nessesary for me to take the test.

So I was sitting out in my car today in the snow, and realized how relaxing it is to just sit there in the drivers seat with nice music on, just watching it snow. It really is quite nice, the seat is comfortable, the sound system is perfectly balanced, and just watching the window fill up with snow, it's like meditation almost, just totally relaxing.
So as far as my cars immediate needs are concerned, the Driver's front tire is really starting to become a concern, I'm probably gonna buy that within a month, but that means I'll inevitably have to replace all 4, which will be expensive. Probably less expensive however than buying a new wheel from Volvo however. Other concerns for me are the tune up, which is badly needed, (which includes an Oil change, because right now my oil is in terrible shape, and I'm suspecting my spark plugs are bad too, causing the long start up time, and my air filter could use replacing) and wiper blades, because mine currently are absolute shit. They literally just push water around, instead of wiping it off like they are supposed to, it's awful. It's small in comparison to the other problems, but it's still annoying. Other than that, I just need a new drivers side headlamp glass, because it has a tiny hole in it, and the car should be good for quite a while. I'm having a sneaking suspicion though that the heater core might be fucked, but that doesn't really concern me, as I'm satisfied with the heated seats enough. Plus down the line I know I can afford to replace it, it's a reletively cheap part compared to some of the other engine componants. I'll get it replaced when I have real money again.

So I'm officially a more manly man now. I just did my first ever car repair.
Dylan found a new Headlight glass in the junkyard the other day, and bought it for me for cheap, and we installed it today. My hands are dirty, but my car now has inproved visibility at night. However, we discovered that the inside of the aluminum housing for the light fixture is rusting, which, in the case of aluminum, is impossible, so we suspect that there is an interior finish, possibly chrome, thats starting to rust away from the exposure to so much water and cold due to the previously cracked glass. Not sure how we can resolve that though. But it looks way better now, and should work dramatically better as well.
Tommarow we plan on continuing to detail it and clean it up. Dylan wants to play with it, as he is also something of an enthusiast when it comes to Swedish vehicles.
