Like the following [long] document. When I was a sophomore in high school, my teacher told me to write a story using the vocabulary words of the week for extra credit. So I cheated and wrote the ending to SotC. hahaha
Also, Agro is female in this story, I don't know what gender he/she really is. xP
---------------------------------------------------------------------
That place . . . Began from the resonance of intersecting points . . . They are memories replaced by ens and naught and etched in stone. Blood, young sprouts, sky--and the one with the ability to control beings created from light . . . In that world, it is said that if one should wish it one can bring back the souls of the dead . . . But to trespass upon that land is strictly forbidden.
I opened my eyes slowly, taking in the bright light. The sky was cloudy, yet the sunlight still pierced through them as though they were not strong enough to deter the solar rays. Across the desolate horizon, silver beams of light shot down from the heavens like open passage ways. They were the markers of the graves; of where the mighty colossus had fallen.
Dormin's words still rang in my head: Behold the idols that stand along the wall... Thou art to destroy all of them.
There were once sixteen idols standing side by side. However, I had defeated fifteen of the colossi that have represented their respective idols. There now was but one left. Malus.
Dormin had not instructed me about Malus like They had the others. They said time was short...
The ritual is nearly over...
Thy wish is nearly granted...
What an astuteness Dormin had. They had told me that I had to pay a price to revive Mono from her deathbed. Before, it had not dawned on me that the only thing equal to life was life itself. Was I to kill myself in order to save her?
Yes, I was certain of it. My clothes and skin were stained with the colossi's black blood, not unlike the blood of humans. I could feel myself become weaker with each fallen foe. I probably did not have the strength to survive the next one. But it is too late to turn back now. I needed to atone for what I had done.
I called for Agro, my only companion on this cursed quest. Agro was a powerful warhorse, shimmiering black like the blackest night, save for the spalsh of white on her forehead. Prompted to battle, she was inhertly brave and independant, but she was also the most loyal horse I have ever ridden. She did not hesitate to leap into battle with me to fight the atrocity of the colossi. Without her, I probably would not have survived as long. However, this would probably be our last ride together.
Once I was mounted on Agro, I held up my sword into the light of the sky. It had just occurred to me at that moment that perhaps this land was not lit by the sun after all. The Ancient Sword, the only authentic tool that could defeat a colossus, lit up when it was shone in this light--this fake sunshine. And Dormin said that the sword would always point out the path to my destination. Perhaps... Dormin was the source of light.
The sword pointed straight south to the sea. The only problem was that I had to cross a canyon and hills to reach there. I sighed and urged Agro forward.
The ride was a long one, but not terribly unenjoyable. From the legends Emon had told me, the Forbidden Lands were to be austere and void of life. My eyes proved otherwise. Hawks flew through the sky, and, in curiosity, flew close to Agro once. They've probably never seen a horse or human before, and they were often close enough to the touch. Lizards and turtles crawled about the land next to the scatted pools of water and fruit. I have once eaten this fruit and found myself bursting with energy soon after. The lizards were also tasty, but I could live without them.
The Forbidden Lands were not bare in any sense, but were perhaps in some way atrophic. Maybe the soil wasn't right for most plants. The desert certainly didn't have anything in it, it was just sand (Phalanx was soon engulfed in the grains).
Agro snorted and slowed as we came about a door. Oddly, it was closed and I couldn't find any obvious way to open it. But there was a mirror on the door... I pointed my sword into the light again and it ricosayed into the mirror, causing the door to slide open. Dormin probably meant to save Malus for last.
Once through the door, Agro slowly made her way up some stairs. It was then we came across a rickety-looking bridge. It couldn't be very stable by looking at it. Agro snorted and hesitated. It was possible to make it as long as the bridge stayed put. If it did not--
Agro was always an intelligent horse. From the start we had been in tune to each other and she knew we had to cross this brigde. Rearing up on her hind legs, Agro ran full speed onto the bridge. There was no problem until we were about halfway across. The bridge started to collapse. Agro whinnied and almost lost her footing. In desperation, she bucked suddenly and sent me flying onto the safe ground ahead of the bridge. But there was no time to save herself and the bridge gave way...
I scrambled to my feet and leaned over the each. I called out to her, hoping she could hear me and know that I was safe. She fell farther and farther down until I couldn't see her anymore. I sucked in a breath and tried to stay firm in my composure. Her fall was only an added attrition to the pain and despair I had already endured.
Climbing up the ominous temple paths, the sky became dark with a tumultuous storm approaching. Lightning flashed and thunder rolled. The higher I climbed, the worse it seemed to become. Finally I had reached the top, but when I did I was exposed to the gusts of furious winds of the storm. Turning my face away from the blast, I paused and stared at the behemoth before me.
Easily hundreds of feet tall, this colossus was gargantuan. He was surrounded on all sides by what looked like ruins of a lost building. He wore it like armor, though I doubted that he was very mobile because of it. On each arm, there were bands of light--like shackles. What a poor thing. I was sent out to destroy him. Yet it seemed I'd be at an advantage despite the obvious difference in size.
I took several steps into a clearing full of foundations of once stand buildings. I was staring low at the ground to keep myself from tripping over the odds and ends of rubble, but I glanced up when I heard a whizzing sound. I had no time to shout in surprise. I ducked behind a thick wall to protect myself from the blast of a golden lightning ball.
Grand Gigas. Grandis Supernus. Guardian. Malus.
I was foolish to doubt. Grumbling, I kept behind the wall; hoping to see a way past it. To my left, I saw a stairway leading into an underground tunnel. Maybe...
I dashed full speed toward the tunnel. It was all I could do before I summersault into the hole due to the force of the blast. Shaking off the dirt from me, I stood slowly and limped through it. Once out of it, I stayed out of sight be shimmying next to a stone wall and entering another tunnel. When I was through that one, however, I came across another no-man's-land. Just one blast could kill me. I inhaled deeply and ran without stopping. Malus was fast with his bullets, but somehow I was faster. Rolling into the dark tunnel, I gasped for breath. How long would this game of cat and mouse go on?
Gratefully, at the next exit I was behind Malus's feet and out of sight. I turned and saw behind me an edge in his armor to which I could grab hold of and climb up. Dormin's light told me that Malus's vital point was on the top of his head. It was a long process to clamor skyward and toward the point, and occasionally I would brush Malus's body, making him shake. I was about waist high when I realized that the suit of armor had run out, making me unable to climb any higher. I groaned; this couldn't be the end after all that work. I ran over to his backside to see if there was a way up that way.
I paused when I spotted a dark spot forming on Malus's back. I rubbed my hand on it and then examined it. Blood. Malus's was bleeding from a wound I did not inflict. Which could I mean this was my chance.
I leapt up and grabbed a hold on the tender flesh. Without warning I stabbed my Ancient Sword into the already flowing wound, making Malus jolt and move his hand over to cover the pain as though he were a child with a scrape. Not missing the opportunity, I jumped from Malus's back to the palm of his hand. When I latched on, Malus seemed to have forgotten about the wound in his back and proceeded to gaze me curiously. Again, like a child. Quite the contrary to his actions of trying to murder me. Still, I had a bigger priority than to understand a colossus's thought process.
I unlatched the bow and arrows from my back and aimed at another dark spot of bloody flesh--this time on his left shoulder. Malus made a sound when the arrow landed and he used the same hand I was standing on to cover it. I nearly lost my balance, but after battling fifteen other beasts like him, my reactions were much faster than normal and I leapt from the hand to the shoulder almost gracefully.
The vital was on the head... If I made it to Malus's head I was practically home-free. Keeping my balance as the colossus swayed to and fro (apparently trying to throw me off) I managed to pull myself up and on to a head that was eight times bigger then Agro. The vital point shined as I pulled my sword from my sheath.
No sooner had my blade been released fully than I had stabbed into the vital skull at full force. Malus cried out and shook his head violently. I pulled back the sword and like a fountain black blood both shot at and rained down upon me. It only increased my adrenaline and I stabbed again, releasing another fountain. Several stabs later, Malus had lost most of his blood and the vital faded away.
I nearly cried out in joy. All sixteen of the idols were destroyed. I had won. I was getting Mono back. I...
I am falling... I see now... I am too high up... The fall will kill me...
I think I died when I landed. Or did I land at all? Dormin usually teleports my unconscious body back to the temple in order to guide me to the next target and for me to check up on Mono's recovery status.
Mono...
I jolted awake. Was she alive?
I heard shouts of fear and surprise. That wasn't Mono's voice... Or Dormin's.
I blinked and through my blurred vision I saw I familiar face. The face of Emon, the augur of my old village. The look of surprise and confusion was plain on his face, like if he had seen an escapee of an insane asylum on the streets. What was he doing here? ... In the Forbidden Lands? ...
"I don't believe this..." Emon pointed his finger at me, "So it was you after all. Have you any idea what you've done?!"
I tried to stand, but the pain was too great. It almost defend my ears from Emon's voice.
"Not only did you steal the sword and trespass upon this cursed land," Emon paused to inhale, "you used the forbidden spell as well..."
Emon's men walked over to me, pulling out their swords. I was nearly on my feet now and Emon kept talking.
"To be reduced to such a sight..."
I staggered to my feet and took a step, gasping for breath.
"You were only being used." Emon continued.
I started walking toward Mono... She was the only one on my mind. Emon would have to wait...
"Eradicate the source of evil." In response, one of Emon's men held up a crossbow and aimed it at me.
I didn't hear his warning. I staggered on; feeling the energy of Dormin rising inside me.
"Look... He's possessed by the dead." Emon must've been referring to the black shadows that were appearing next to me. There were sixteen of them-
"Hurry up and do it!" Emon gave the order to his men.
The crossbower suddenly shot an arrow in my leg, making me fall over in pain. Rolling in a heap, I lost Mono from my sight. I glared at the men who would dare get in my way.
"It is better to put him out of his misery then to exist, cursed as he is."
Another knight came over and hovered his sword above me, in a stabbing posture. A couple seconds passed. As the blade came down, I reached my hands out, hoping to stop him, but they did little to stop the attack. The sword made its way into my chest and both that and my hands sprayed out blood. Blood that was now as dark as the colossi that I had defeated. The weapon had only augmented the pain I felt now. I would not die here...
The knight stepped back in surprise. With the sword still stuck in my throbbing chest, I stood and gasped for breath. My senses were getting blurred by the pain but that yearning for Mono was still strong. Having one hand holding the blade, I reached out the other one to touch Mono's dear face. But both my mind and body were growing numb and I couldn't reach. Desperate, I sucked in my breath and willed myself to pull the sword out violently. And, as I did, I felt my life drain away...
The last thing I saw was Mono... Before I fell to the floor.
