So I found out theres a secret level in Sonic 2
4 of them infact, but only one was completed enough to be even remotely playable.
Have any of you ever played through the sound board in Sonic 2 and found a track that never got used? There was a reason for that, it was data that was left on the cartrage for a level that didn't make the cut. There were 4 levels that were put into the game that never got used, I forget the names of 2 of them, the other two were Genocide City Zone, and the other was Hidden Palace zone. One level from Genocide City zone ended up getting turned into the third level of Metropolis Zone, and the other was almost finished, but got cut in the last minute. It was however left on the final cut of the cartrage. It also made it into 2 betas, one of which was snuck out of a beta test session or game convention or something, which had an almost fully playable version of the level
I found out about this level randomly when I found the music for it on youtube, and thought it was awesome, and I had never heard of the level when me and Hippy Dylan had played the game, and we both have played the hell out of these games, trust me. Then we found a video clip of the level and wanted to find out how to play it.
However, the version of the level on the final cut is almost completely inaccessable, unless your awesome like me. In order to access this secret level, you need to have a Game Genie. I happen to indeed have one of those. So I dusted off my Sonic 2 and Game Genie, and decided to try it out. It was awesome, but the final version level is glitched out, so it doesn't have the original artwork, and basically is a glitched out pit of water that you die in. Still, I am someone awesome enough to say that I've seen the secret zone in Sonic 2
