I watched a video of a guy saving a screech owl from a fishing line and it reminded me of Bernard.

I want to put a knife on my Christmas list, but anything with a wood handle and full tang are really expensive. I want to go hiking this winter and I would like a bush knife for that.

Yeah, it's hard to find something like that which is also cheap.
Where are you gonna go to do that?

It's a really sad feeling when I find a knife that hits all my appeals and it's too expensive.
"Oh, this knife looks just delightful!"
...
"Oh, it's 600 dollars..."

I guess it's impossible to find a wooden handle under $150 at this point. I just like the look of wood handles too much on fixed blades :/

Jesus, $600!? Where did you find that!?
I'm betting I can find a thing or two. Though, honestly, you can find Micarta that kinda looks like wood thats really nice too.

Oh yeah, Bark Rivers are crazy good, but crazy expensive, because they use ridiculously nice steels and custom handle materials. That "Elmax" steel that knife is made from is some sort of crazy proprietary super Stainless steel which is really hard.
I like that knife for you.
I like their Bravo 1
The Rat 3 is around the size of that featherlight.

Yeah, it looks like thats about the only price you can get it for... It's super premium materials, Bark River are super premium fancy knives, that come with a matching price tag.
Thats pretty much the reason I don't have one yet, ha ha ha

Bravo 1 I guess is a nice alternative for something cheaper, but I really wish I could afford the more expensive stuff hahaha
A 400 dollar folding knife is dumb, but for that same price you could get a really nice fixed blade, or an okay sword hahaha

I mean, it's about the same, hah a ha
You just gotta start getting enough money that you can save up for these things, or maybe put it on your list and hope you get lucky, ha ha ha
Yeah, that's just so silly. Folders should be cheap, ha hah a

My main issue with folders, besides the economy of them being all over the place, is that it doesn't matter what steel you give it. All you need is to have just one screw to fall out, or something to break, and then your knife is useless forever. You can never have full tang, and people only buy them because they are "fun" to swish open. (I admit I play with my Rat 2, but it's also super cheap if I lose or break it).
Folders need so much extra maintenance, meanwhile with a fixed blade, you just need to take care of the blade itself. Maybe the handle if you abuse it or it's made of wood.
I CAN technically afford it, I just don't want to get below $5,000 in my bank account if I can help it. My main trick to knowing if I can afford a luxury is whether or not I can either buy it twice (for bigger things like a computer or car) or if I can buy it five times if it's cheaper.

Thats whats called "more points of failure". This is why when dealing with equipment that is considered mission crticial, you use stuff that has less chances to break, which is why Nasa still uses really simplistic computers.
They buy them for convenience, and they get the expensive ones just to show how much money they have.
A fixed blade is as simple as it gets to maintain, which is why they've been around since, you know, the bronze age, ha ha ha
Yeah, thats a good idea. Since you have the ability to save, it's always a good idea to do so. I go with the double strategy for most things, if possible. I definitely would if I could save money, ha ha ha.
This is why I'm so ridiculously wealthy in games, I use a similar strategy, ha ha
