so mario, whats up with you? will you be able to get in by summer 2 at least?
took all the placement tests for temple so in a day or two i'll have my full registration/orientation thing scheduled. i wont have quite enough money to get my own place in philly this year(next year ill have time to apply for more scholarships - they're all due before transfers are accepted), so im renting a place in west chester with david and taking the train down the days i go.
looks like i'll be taking for fall semester: Calculus III Differential Equations I Intermediate Microeconomics Classical Physics I (first course of calculus-based physics)
so whats up with you?

I kinda wanted to make this thread myself, but I guess you beat me to it.
Well, next week I'm meeting with my OVR person, we're gonna set up our gameplan, see whats happening, they may not be keen on me doing summer, but they're glad I have a backup plan in case I'm not driving, so that may convince them. Since registration ends on May 1st, I may have to like, make my plan and register and everything all in one day. I'm hoping for Summer 1 though if all goes well.
And dispite not being in philly, and having to stay with who you have to stay with, you have a train at least, which is awesome.
Wow, your classes sound mad complicated and mathmatical.

I'ma post my school stuff here too. My class schedule is up, though I can still make changes until.... July I think. It's weird, because on Tuesday I have two classes, and on Thursday I have five classes and goes from 10 AM to 5:40 PM. Can't they just be equal?

Yeah we're all kinda starting some sort of college adventure here of our own at the same time, it's kinda awesome.
Wow, thats messed up, why would they do that? I mean in a way it's a little convenient, work hard 1 day a week, do a little another, then 5 days of relaxation/homework. But perhaps a more balanced schedule would be less stressful. I'm not sure which would be better.

Yeah, it's cool.
Oh no, I still go for a full week. I was just pointing out two extremes that exist for some reason. I'm taking 15 credit hours, with at least two classes a weekday, with all days starting at 10 AM and most ending around 2 or 3. Saturday and Sunday are off.

I know, I love it, it's kind of exciting.
Ohhhhhh, right. Wow. Thats a lot then. I'd think they really could make it even, maybe even have monday through thursday be 3, then have 2 on friday for an easy lead in to the weekend.
I really have no idea how many choices I have left, since all the classes are probably full now, I better not get a bunch of early ass classes. I'm willing to wake up a little earlier, but no crazy early stuff. Like maybe being up at 10, MAAAAYBE 9, that'd be nice, though, I'd prefer nighttime classes perhaps, since I can't work with my caseworker or do other stuff after 5, so having time to do that in the daytime, then school at night, that'd be nice or something, I dunno.

Here I took a screenshot of my schedule Not sure what the colors mean, but my week is busy... Might get that crazy anthropology class switched out.

Well at first it does look pretty chaotic, but if you really read it, it isn't so bad, it's only really technically 4 classes. OH, I just figured out the colors, it means when an hour is split between two classes, like on Monday, your English ends at 11:10, then your Calculus starts at 11:30, so they are both in the same hour. And yeah, that Anthropolgy does look like it may make things a little tougher, but I guess your Tuesdays would be a little easy without it. It all depends on how much you feel like doing, or feel capable of doing in one week.

Well, NAU technically counts my CS Lab as a separate class credit, but I am working on getting both the anthropology and english class removed. I'm going to be taking an AP test on May 5th, and if I get a score of 5 (out of a possible 5), they'll drop all my english classes for the four years and I'll never have to write a literature-based essay ever again. The anthropolgy class is there as a "diversity" credit to keep my schedule from being too monotonous, but I'm thinking of switching it to Aikido, and possibly replacing my english with a history course.
Because I need 15 credits a semester to keep my scholarship valid...

Whaaaaaaat? Thats pretty incredible. I have lot of different english stuff that are dependant on my Writing Comp class. I would have loved to test out of that one, skipping straight to the Scriptwriting stuff. And Aikido sounds awesome for you, I can't take my Martial arts class until my 4th Semister apparently. I guess if you can test out of English, you might as well throw the history in there to replace it. That sounds like a nice easy start to me.
Yeah, I guess thats true. I'm supposed to go full time for my Fianancial Aid, but my psychiatrist says I should go easy to start, which I wish I could, but it isn't easy without money...

So how many years do you technically have left? I know you have one year or so of college, but then university, which I don't understand for the life of me why it's not part of college, is like...well....how is it any different? Or like, what do you do there?
But what purpose does it serve? I thought you wanted to be a nurse.

I have one year of college left.. then 3 years of university. and a year or two top up so i can get a better job than a bog standard nurse. its not part of college because.. college is just a place for people who dont like school and wanna go to a more "mature" setting. which is bullshit, its just the same. you do school until you're 16, then you can either do 2 years in the same school, or go to college for those 2 years. then you go on to university. well law looks good on your CV plus, theres nothing else i can do. unless i do biology but its REALLY DIFFICULT at A level, and i just.. no

So in other words your pretty much still in high school, just it's more like a private school? Right. And 3 years? Geez. Also, what is top up? I'm even more confused, Ha ha ha.
Riiiiiiiight, indeed. Still, wouldn't biology make more sense for someone whose doing nurse stuff, since the human body is part of biology? I dunno. It is probably hard though, biology is annoying.

well yeah i guess but kids get paid 120 a month to go to college haha
yeah 3 years is a small amount too. a top up is where you do a year to "top up" your degree.. say your 3 year degree makes you a nurse in a hospital. the top up degree for a year would make you a nurse manager type thing, so you earn more money in a higher up position.
biology would make sense yes, but.. only a handful of people pass biology well when they do it for A level its that difficult. even kathryn my best friend whos really smart, got an A in philosophy and a B or something in english, she got an E in biology. i'd rather not kill myself and only get a shitty grade because then it would probably do more harm than good haha

Whaaaaaaaaat!? Jeez, thats ridiculous
Well yeah, here it's either a 2 year or a 4 year degree, it's just 3 is an odd number. And indeed, that sounds like a good idea. So is that like another seperate school or is that just an extra part of the regular degree from University.
Yeah, I figure, Biology sucks. And I guess it would make sense to get a better grade.

I guess my bad experence with it makes me hate it, since the only time I ever took any biology class was that shitty class we were in in 7th grade, god that class sucked. I swear that woman was deaf or retarded, I couldn't learn anything from that class.
I just find it so boring too.

i remember nothing of any classes we had in middle school or even high school. i just periodically read stuff/watch lecture videos on youtube about stuff and biology is quite interesting. im sure that class sucked though.

Theres nothing like spending a month and a half of the anatomy of a cell to sour you to the idea of biology as a whole for life.
God it was awful.

Post by tim on Apr 23, 2011 18:36:28 GMT -5
the anatomy of cells is awesome but i cant comprehend how it would take a month, especially considering how cursory an introduction it would have been. ugh the teaching in elementary, middle and high schools just makes me angry thinking about it.

I found that stuff mindnumbing. Probably because of how poorly it was taught. It might have been more exciting had it been better taught, I dunno.
